This red wine is a delicious every day example of one of Portugal’s most intriguing appellations —the Dão. Perched above the Dão river, Adega de Penalva is one of the leading whose growers own only 2 acres each. They produce wines like this that are leanand characterful with a minimum of fuss that showcase the area while remaining attractively priced. This is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), and 30% Jaen (Mencía). Grapes are all hand-harvested. Inviting aromas and flavors of black raspberry, plum and blueberry along with mulling earthy spices and hints of leather. This is the Portuguese answer to Cotes-du-Rhone and can slot into your weekly rotation wonderfully.
Aromas of leather and blueberries lead to a palate full of dark fruits with cherry and raspberry notes.Pairs well with beef and lamb.
