Dupuis Description

Many know Wells Guthrie as the founder of Copain Wines, where he was an early advocate for the move away from big wines for big scores and a proponent for less ripeness and more balance. Having run his course at Copain Wines, Wells moved on a few years ago and has found a new home, quite literally, in the hills above Boonville in the Anderson Valley. With this new project, Wells comes full circle - back to the examples he first saw while staging with vignerons in Europe. There are currently 7 acres of vines on a 40 acre property at 1200 feet above sea level. The vineyards are completely surrounded by natural forests and biodiversity. The farming is, of course, organic and the winemaking is gentle and simple with the only addition being a tiny bit of SO2. Wells and his family have made this property their home.

Sourced from the last vineyard in the Deep End of the valley, our blocks of selection massal clone pinot are planted meter by meter and farmed organically. The cold Deep End climate and low vigor soils produce small amounts of concentrated aromatic wine with dark red fruit and balanced with vibrant acidity.  It has lifted floral and dried pine needle notes to the dark red fruit aromas. Expansive on the palate with a minerally edge to the red fruit flavors that finishes with bright acidity and talc like tannins. Subtle, but very structured and elegant.
